Stellar Quines recognises that the role of a women’s theatre company is still a necessity in order to address the poor representation and profile of women’s work on and off our stages. Although recent studies demonstrate that progress has been made in the balance between roles occupied by women compared to men, there is still some way to go before we can celebrate more balanced representation.
In 2011 Stellar Quines commissioned our own research in Gender in Scottish Theatre, resulting in the Calm Down Dear! report. In recent years a number of campaigns have emerged around the gender-equality debate that have inspired and reminded us just how important our place is within the cultural sector including Christine Hamilton’s 2016 Where are the women? report. In 2020, we commissioned Christine to repeat the research to see if there were any improvements. Read Where are the women? Part 2 report.
The company are currently proud Parents in Performing Arts Campaign members.
