The Gamblers by Nikolai Gogol

Adapted by Selma Dimitrijevic with Misha Durnenkov
Greyscale and Dundee Rep Ensemble in association with Stellar Quines and Northern Stage.

Greyscale The Gamblers angel

Stellar Quines were delighted to be part of this in association production, which regenders The Gamblers with an all female cast; marrying our own commitment to push boundaries and challenge stereotypes.

This new all-female version of The Gamblers is a story of women who gamble, hustle, cheat, drink, swear, sing and dance  –  and never apologise for it.

Gogol’s classic play – a fast-paced comedy about a group of card-sharks who try to outwit each other – has been adapted by Greyscale’s Artistic Director Selma Dimitrijevic with Misha Durnenkov. A masterpiece of dramatic suspense, this is a thrilling satire of greed and a comic celebration of cunning.

Six women, five players, one game – one of them will lose it all.

This is Greyscale’s first midscale tour and we look forward to welcoming them to Scotland.

“Perhaps the most notable aspect of the company Greyscale is the astonishing array of talent involved.” The List

Greyscale was formed in 2009 by a group of established directors, writers, designers and actors, led by artistic co-directors Selma Dimitrijevic and Lorne Campbell. In 2013, Lorne Campbell became Artistic Director of Northern Stage, with Selma Dimitrijevic continuing as Artistic Director of Greyscale. The company works in a number of different ways, but they mostly like the idea that everyone involved in the creative journey of a production should be able to provoke a process, not just the director or the writer.
