HOW TO CHANGE THE WORLD – a creative opportunity for young women

Stellar Quines is asking young women (aged 14 – 24 years) HOW TO CHANGE THE WORLD.

Every Friday from 29th January for 5 weeks, we will release a video from a guest artist with creative prompts and insights into getting your creativity onto the page. We are asking you to watch the video and send us your work responding to it. The prompts should help you think of a creative response in whatever form you see fit; it could be a letter, a piece of poetry, a monologue – whatever! We will also be releasing one creative prompt specifically focusing on illustration.

We want young women to share what they think needs to change in the world, and how they want it to be changed. This is your opportunity to express your radical ideas creatively. We know that young people are leading movements across the world and we want to share the power to harness this with as many people as possible.

Every week, 3 chosen creative responses will receive a £30 book voucher and those creative responses will be included in a zine called HOW TO CHANGE THE WORLD.

The zine will be released on 8th March 2021 (International Women’s Day) and will be sent to schools, libraries and community centres across Scotland. The zine will also be made available online.

Every week, a new prompt will be uploaded onto the Stellar Quines website and shared across social media.

FAQs

What do I have to do?

Create a response to a creative prompt. Each prompt has a deadline so please check this deadline before submitting. See below.

What kind of thing are you looking for?

Your response can be any style you like. You may want to keep things simple or make it more poetic. You may want to use your work to rant or it may take the form of bullet points. It’s up to you how you want to share your creativity and ideas for change. Your response may be used for the zine so try not to make it too long. We recommend no more than 500 words for written responses.

I’ve never written/drawn anything like this before, can I enter?

Yes, absolutely. We would love responses from young women who’ve never written/drawn before. Do not worry about spelling or grammar – we’re interested in your creative ideas!

When is the deadline?

Each prompt has a separate deadline. Don’t panic if you miss 1 of them – there will be 5 prompts altogether throughout January and February. You can submit as many responses as you like.

  • Prompt 1 released January 29th (Deadline: February 5th)
  • Prompt 2 released February 5th (Deadline: February 12th)
  • Prompt 3 released February 12th (Deadline: February 19th)
  • Prompt 4 released February 19th (Deadline: February 26th)
  • Prompt 5 released February 26th (Deadline: March 5th)

How do I submit?

Submit your response in a word document format, or JPEG for illustrations, to rosie@stellarquines.co.uk. Remember to include:

  • Your name
  • Contact information (email address will do)
  • Your age

What happens once I submit?

Rosie from Stellar Quines will select three responses to each prompt. We will email everyone who submitted to let you know if your work has been selected or not. If your work is chosen, a £30 book voucher will be sent to you via email.
