The latest film in Stellar Quines’ Letters to… series has been released in celebration of Black History Month.
The film, Letters to… an Inspiring Woman, was created following a call out which invited people who identify as Black, Asian, Latinx, Indigenous, People of Colour, biracial, have mixed heritage (we use BIPOC+ to refer to these identities in place of Black Asian Minority Ethnic) to write a letter to a woman who inspires them.
Letter submissions were addressed to a variety of extraordinary women including famous figures and people the writers knew personally. The standard of submissions was extremely high which made it a difficult task for theatremaker Apphia Campbell and Stellar Quines to select just one. In addition to the chosen letter being made into a short film, Stellar Quines awarded £100 to the writer.
We are pleased to announce Courtney Stoddart as the writer of the chosen letter, ‘Letter to a prophet’. Her powerful letter is a pertinent piece of work as “the fight rages on” for equality for so many marginalised and silenced voices. It sheds light on how one woman’s fight resonates with another, inspiring activism.
Courtney performed her letter in the film which was directed by Apphia Campbell and filmed at the Scottish Storytelling Centre. Watch it below or on our YouTube channel.
