Booking is now open for our first ever production for young people. As part of the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival on-tour programme, the UK premiere of children’s show This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing will be touring across Scotland from Dumfries to Skye from 11 May before opening at the Festival in Edinburgh later in the month.
This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing is a contemporary take on the Hansel and Gretel fairytale, and follows the story of triplet sisters abandoned in the forest by their father after the death of their beloved mother. Rather than be defeated, three resolutions are made – one goes to find purpose, another to find adventure and the third stays right where she is. Many years later, having circumnavigated the globe, grown forests, baked cakes, saved villages, sung songs, crossed oceans, fought Vikings and built homes… the sisters, now women, meet back in the forest where it all started.
Prolific Australian playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer’s award-winning play has been staged in many countries and languages, as well as being adapted into a book, but this will be its UK premiere.
Jemima Levick will direct a cast of four to bring to life this moving story about life, adventure and home.
“With their focus on productions and performances featuring women, this couldn’t be a more appropriate work for Stellar Quines to stage. We’re thrilled to partner with the company for this UK premiere of a wonderful story about the search for self, for family and a place to call home.” Festival Director, Noel Jordan.
Co-produced by Imaginate and Stellar Quines, and funded through the Scottish Government’s Edinburgh Festivals Expo Fund.
