International Women’s Day – launch of Letters to…the Woman in Charge

Today is International Women’s Day – a time for women and girls across the world to stand together and celebrate.

To celebrate the Quines bring you the third in our series of films Letters To…

Letters to…the Woman in Charge was chosen to celebrate International Women’s Day 2019, at a time when it’s imperative that we’re looking outward at the world we live in.

We received a wide range of letters, some of which made us laugh and some which took time to process before moving on to the next.

The letter chosen was from Dorothy Bruce who addressed her letter to Theresa May. Dorothy’s letter has spark, energy and is an important declaration in our current political climate, especially with the deadline fast approaching for Brexit (29th March).

We are also celebrating International Women’s Day with the launch of our M*****classes Sound Design workshops.

‘We’re overwhelmed by the numbers which surpassed our expectations considerably’ Jemima Levick

We had a fantastic response to our call out for applications to M*****classes. They came from women of all ages, places (all over Scotland!), experience, backgrounds and with different ambitions, skills and areas of focus! It is so exciting to see so many women looking to forge a career in creative technical design. The course starts today with an introductory workshop from Gareth Fry.

Rounding off our celebrations is our collaboration with Imaginate for the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival when we present our first production aimed at a younger audience – This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing. A contemporary feminist fairytale directed by Jemima Levick it  will empower and encourage us to create our own journeys and follow our dreams. Tour starts 11 May.
