Stellar Quines is delighted to announce that Maureen Beattie has been appointed the new President of Equity, only the second female president in the union’s history.
Maureen has been an integral part of Stellar Quines history having appeared in many productions over the years, including The Jennifer Tremblay Trilogy. This award-winning trilogy saw Beattie play a woman struggling to come to terms with events in her past and home life and her performance was awarded with a Herald Archangel Award and The Stage Award for Acting Excellence in Fringe 2015.
Maureen Beattie has been a regular on TV and has appeared in productions across the UK. Most recently she was a member of the cast in critically acclaimed production Yerma, starring Billie Piper and produced by The Young Vic.
In an article in The Stage announcing her appointment Beattie said she would like to focus on ensuring actors have equal opportunities for work, highlighting the campaign group ERA 50:50, which is striving to ensure women have equal representation on stage and screen.
She also told The Stage her goal is to ensure every single member of the union is given equal opportunities to work, regardless of their sex, ethnicity or whether they have a disability.
