Meet Shilpa T-Hyland – one of our new Board Pioneers

I am delighted to be joining Stellar Quines’ board as a pioneer this year. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn more about what boards do and how companies are governed. I hope I’ll gain insight into the kinds of problem solving, creative discussion and analysis which is important for helping a company succeed day to day. In many ways it’s an investment for me to begin learning the kind of strategic planning which I am sure will be a useful tool in all kinds of different work I may do in the future. I hope to come out with a better appreciation for my own skill set and challenge myself to expand my understanding of the different ways I can use those skills.

There are loads of good reasons to become a board pioneer or to join a board including:

  • Learning from the amazing variety of skills, experiences, and personalities of existing board members
  • Immersing yourself in the ecology of the arts community and understanding more about how it functions
  • Appreciating your own unique voice and contributing to a diversity of voices
  • Using your own strengths in new ways

I’m hugely excited to be a part of this initiative and hope it encourages more people to join boards, and more pioneer schemes.
