Rehearsal Room 15, Lifting the Lid

The Tron and The Traverse
1st to 6th Jun 2009

Rehearsal Room 15 will be at The Tron in Glasgow from Monday 1st until Wednesday 3rd June and at The Traverse in Edinburgh from Thursday 4th June until Saturday 6th June.

Stellar Quines invites you to six very different evenings of vigorous debate with Scottish and International artists. This will be an opportunity for you to have a glimpse at projects that we have been researching and developing over the last few years for future production. Observe how actors, directors and writers tackle a script in development. Hear the conversation as the creative team build ideas for the play and the production. Contribute and ask questions about the process. Tell us what you think and make your voice count.

The Rehearsal Room series has earned a reputation of uncovering new voices in partnership with the audience. Stellar Quines continues to be curious, looking for new and exciting ways of stimulating the hearts and minds of our audience and are committed to involving you in the process of making theatre. Rehearsal Room is also a showcase and resource for writers and a platform for possible collaborators.

West Wind Drift
by Jan Natanson
directed by Lesley Hart

A multi-layered meditation on man's relationship with the sea. Delivered in rich Scots dialect and infused with folklore and myth, as well as historical and scientific fact, this witty, moving episodic drama is told with vim and vigour throughout. With interwoven storylines, the play follows several characters on their journey - physical, psychological, emotional and intellectual - and exposes the individual conflict within each strand.

ANA
by Clare Duffy and Pierre-Yves Lemieux
directed by Serge Denoncourt
dramaturg Paula Danckert

"Theatre without borders."

ANA explores the connection between depression and madness and creativity through the re-telling of the Inanna myth. Creativity is understood both in its biological form of giving birth/raising children and, in its artistic form, of self expression and communication. The project has been developed through a collaboration with Imago Theatre Company, Montreal and Stellar Quines

Constantina
by Torben Betts
directed by Zinnie Harris

Set in Rome in the year AD65 as the Emperor Nero's megalomania reaches fever pitch, Torben Bett's latest play traces the experiences of four very different women as they are caught up in a moment of political madness and terror.

we had song
written and directed by Catrin Evans

we had song is a biographical exploration of Victoria Scherautz. Born in Warsaw in 1916, Victoria was arrested and deported to Siberia by Soviet troops in 1939. Her journey through life took her to Bombay, Teheran, Cairo and to Great Britain. She died in London in March 2006. This play was inspired by the memories she left behind...moments in her life she relived with clarity and wit, but others she kept to herself, surviving through her silence.

we had song asks her to speak...
